Do you have a cold sore? If so, you probably feel frustrated and irritated. This is normal and to be expected. Fortunately, our dentist, Dr. Stephanie S. Karlin & Justin S. Petracek, has some tips that can help you handle the situation and dull the discomfort while you wait for the cold sore to run its course.
The first tip they has is to ice the sore. You can do so by grabbing an ice cube, wrapping it in a paper towel, and placing it on the lip. You should do this right when you start feeling the tingling. For optimal results, stick another ice cube on the lip after the first one melts. This can help reduce pain and swelling.
The second tip Dr. Stephanie S. Karlin & Justin S. Petracek has is to let the sore dry out. This means that even though the cold sore cream seems tempting, you should not reach for it and slather the sore. Avoid touching it until the pain subsides. At that point, keep the lips moist to prevent bleeding and to encourage healing.
